Roger Black

Roger Black is an American media designer who has worked on newspapers, magazines and web sites around the world. Currently he is leading the redesign of Bloomberg.com in New York.

At the same time, Roger is part of a the team starting up Rove, a high-end car magazine/web site in London; he is spear-heading the re-launch of Key West magazine, the first issue of which appeared this month; he is working on a new Hollywood publication (both print and online); he's helping the new magazine for grandparents, Grand; and he's rethinking the classified business of a major Western U.S. daily, both on-line and off-line.

In 2004 he completed a redesign of the Houston Chronicle, and collaborated on its revamped web site, chron.com, which was launched last November. He designed and helped launch the Spanish-language daily, Rumbo, which has four editions in Texas and is expected to expand into California in 2006.

In 2005 Roger lead redesigns of Nintendo Power,  MIT's  Technology Review and Poz magazines.

The Los Angeles Times continues to implement a complete design that Black conceived, starting in 2002. The paper has won the highest number of awards in the history of the Society for News Design annual competition for the last two years.

Black works from a small consulting firm in New York, Roger Black Studio. He's a founding partner in Danilo Black S.A. in Monterrey, Mexico, and the Font Bureau, both started in 1989. Previously he served as chief art director of Newsweek, The New York Times, New York magazine and Rolling Stone.
